A wine enthusiast will vouch for the passing year as ...

A wine enthusiast will vouch for the passing year as being very favorable for collecting wine. Recession might have made so many other commodities really unaffordable, but wine has been so very affordable this entire year. The merchants have offered some really good discounts on most wines regardless of its grade. A middle class wine enthusiast who spends $50 on a bottle and a connoisseur who spends a 6 figure amount on a bottle of the rarest forms of Bordeaux and Burgundy, all got a chance to save up on their bucks. In fact, many collectors report of being spammed with emails from merchants offering rebates of up to 50 % on wines. Even dealers like Hart Davis Hart, Zachys, Sotheby’s and Christie’s have slashed their sales by 20 % and 40 % this year. So this is the best time for wine collectors.

This year, although the prices are low there seems to be less supply, due to which you may not expect the discounts to continue for a longer time. But however the market conditions for collecting wine in the immediate present seem to be good. Due to the real estate crash, the cultivators of wine have suffered scarcity in area for growing wines. But the number of wine enthusiasts and collectors seems to be growing by the day. So naturally in the present times the supply is finding it difficult to keep pace with the demand. Since even the rarest form of wine, though collected by the most passionate wine collectors, unlike a rare piece of art, is not confined to the show case, it is consumed. So there is always a demand for it even from old customers. The new enthusiasts add to the beeline of wine enthusiasts. So the demand is always growing while the supply is shrinking. Therefore, in future, you can expect the rates to shoot up.

According to Zachys, the New-York based wine house, there has been an increase in the number of young collectors at wine auctions. The numbers seem to have doubled in this very year itself. Many collectors buy wine out of a passion for the beverage while others buy and keep it for years in their private bars to let it age sufficiently before consumption. Whatever the reason, the demand for wine has gone up in recent years.

Now the point is when the demand is high and supply is low, how do you intend to manage your wine now? If you are a newbie you won’t probably know the correct place to approach for your collectibles. You might just be complacent with the wines that you buy from the shelves of the liquor stores. But they are just assembly line wines; they are not collectibles in the true sense of the word. They are machine made and lack the quality of traditionally made wines. The quality is far inferior to the genuine Bordeaux or Burgundy wines that collectors taker pride in adorning their bars with. The connoisseur wine collectors do not buy their collection from the shelves of common liquor stores. They buy only from the best producers like Haut Brion and Château Margaux. The prices of these wines start at $300 per bottle.
